MINUTES OF THE FOURTH MEETING.

The Minutes of the Fourth Mecting held at the office of the British Red Cross Society, 14, Grosvenor Crescent on Wednesday, November 3rd, 1937, were, with the addition of Sir Alan

Anderson's name to the list of those present, confirmed and signed.

BUSINESS ARISING OUT OF THE MINUTES.

(1) Letter from Mr. Gull to Lord Donoughmore.

Mr. Gull read a letter dated November 5th which he had sent to Lord Donoughmore conveying the views of the Lord Mayor upon the decisions of the Executive Committee of November 3rd in respect of the future working of the Fund.

(2) Minutes of a meeting of the Finance Pub-Committee held on

November 10, 1937.

Mr. Bernard informed the Committee that in accordance with the facts stated in Mr. Gull's letter to Lord Donoughmore the Finance Sub-Committee held a meeting on November 10th at 3, Lombard Street to consider and make suggestions regarding the future working of the Fund. The Sub-Committee had considered various names, among them those of Mr. H.J.Brett, former Commercial Secretary of Legation, and Dr. Gordon Thompson of the Lester Institute, Shanghai who was now acting as the Honorary Secretary of the Medical Sub-Committee. It had decided to recommend the latter for the secretaryship of the Fund.

The Committee approved of this recommendation and decided to appoint Dr. Thompson.

Dr. Thompson being in receipt of a salary from the Lester Institute, the question was raised whether he should receive a salary or an honorarium. The matter was le ft to the decision of Sir Harold Fawcus and Mr. D.G.M.Bernard, the Hon. Treasurer.

Mr. Bernard suggested and it was agreed that when Dr. Thompson had taken over his duties they should include both those of secretary and of treasurer, cheques to be counter- signed by a member of the Finance Sub-Committee.

(3) Resignation of Mr. Gull from Honorary Secretaryship.

Referring to a letter which he had sent to Lord Donoughmore on November 9th resigning from the Honorary Secretaryship of the Fund, Mr. Gull formally tendered his resignation to the Committee.

Mr Gull was thanked for the services which he had rendered.
